John Lumpkin held several positions at the Associated Press, including Vice President for US & Latin America Newspaper Markets, Regional Vice President/South, Dallas Bureau Chief, Des Moines Bureau Chief, Raleigh Bureau Chief, and San Antonio Correspondent. Prior to retirement in 2014, John was Director of the School of Journalism and Strategic Communication at Texas Christian University for over 5 years. John earned a BA in English Literature from the University of Virginia. He currently lives in Richardson and is a contract writer for Texas Highways magazine.
David A. Dean currently serves on the North Texas Crime Commission and Dean International, Inc., an international public policy consultancy. David was general counsel to both Republican Governor William P. Clements, Jr., and Democratic Governor Dolph Briscoe. He also served as Texas Secretary of State under Governor Clements. David is a graduate of St. Mark’s School of Dallas. He earned a BBA from Southern Methodist University, a Juris Doctor degree from University of Texas at Austin, and an Honorary Doctor of Humanities from Dallas Baptist University. David is a good standing member of the Dallas Bar, State Bar of Texas, and American Bar Associations. He has climbed mountains around the world and is an avid Harley Davidson rider. David and his wife Jean reside in Dallas and have opened their home monthly to Saturday night dinner, Bible Study and Christian Fellowship since 1997.
John and David were both involved in a Texas effort that set the standard nationally for real-time reporting, which extends to this day. They will also be available for more timely insight on election reporting.
